John Rutherford took up the position as the first Chief Executive of Invest Turks and Caicos (Invest TCI) on 1 December 2015. He has a strong background of working in the field of foreign direct investment and has been employed by, or advised, Governments, Economic Development Agencies and Investment Promotion Agencies around the world since 1990.
Mr. Rutherford was a career diplomat at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1978 – 2009, spending the majority of his time representing the British Government’s investment operation, including as head of the US West Coast business from 1998-2002; and as Regional Director, Asia Pacific from 2002-07. He took time out from the British Government to assist in the set up of Invest Hong Kong and was that organisation’s Deputy Director General for five years.
Before taking up his current position at Invest TCI, Mr. Rutherford ran his own consultancy firm, advising Governments on their inward investment strategy, as well as setting up and training staff at new investment promotion agencies. This included work in Turkey, South Africa, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and Wales.
